Abstract

The xenophobia and racism that have followed in the wake of COVID-19 have impacted the lives of many, marking “anyone who can be perceived and mistaken to be Chinese” as targets (Ho, 2021, p. 149). This purpose of this research paper is to showcase how an issue that is medical in nature (as the novel coronavirus is a respiratory illness), became a social and political issue over a relatively short period of time, exploring the lasting impact of colonialism in the creation of the Chinese ‘Other’ which persists in the present day, perpetuated by Anti-Asian racism. This poster is a foundation for those starting to ask the question: What can be done moving forward to prevent Anti-Asian Racism? The research points towards collective efforts to educate, become allies, and showing solidarity.
