Abstract:
This paper describes the author’s inquiry into her experience of authoring as a nurse educator in
public health nursing practice. Through a critical exploration of her own practice, the author
shares her insights into how authoring herself as a nurse educator supports her to respond to
learners, shape nursing knowledge and promote the moral identity of nurses. Authorship is a
critical component of being a nurse educator, as authoring is ethics in action. In this project the
author explores authoring through the process of reflexivity. The author explores how authoring
shapes educator decisions and relationships with learners. The author believes that ontology and
epistemology are foundational to authoring as a nurse educator.
