Abstract

This project focuses on the effects of both aging and health risks on the asset portfolio shares of various asset classes held by Chinese old individuals, and the method I use is ordinary least squares (OLS). From the estimation output, I find that the shares of Cash/Bank Deposit, Durable, and Principal Residence increase with aging, and that of Financial Risky Assets, Transportation, and Land/Production Tools vary negatively with age. Also, the shares of Principal Residence and Financial Risky Assets are very sensitive to the aging effect. As for the health effects, most asset shares are sensitive to whether people have disabilities or fear about the future life, and they are not very sensitive to whether people have depression, bad concentration, and chronic diseases.
