Abstract:
Damilola’s research focused on studying phosphoinositide kinases and how they can be misregulated in disease. John Burke’s laboratory focuses on these enzymes and has extensively explored how they can be misregulated in aging, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. In John Burke’s lab, Damilola acquired skills in molecular biology, protein purification, biochemical assays, mass spectrometry, and structural biology. These are all skills that are in high demand in the biotechnology sector. The goal of Damilola’s project was to use a variety of biochemical and biophysical approaches to understand the molecular basis underlying human diseases caused by dysregulated phosphoinositide signaling. Damilola’s work utilized molecular biology, protein purification, and detailed biochemical/biophysical analysis of protein structure/function. This work was at the interface of biology, chemistry, and physics.
