A knowledge­-combined expert system method is proposed for optimal coding selection. Performance analysis is further discussed for Type-I Hybrid ARQ schemes. Particularly, a simple time delay analysis is carried out by using queueing theory. Finally, a pragmatic approach to design an optimum Type-I hybrid ARQ scheme with BCH error correcting code is developed by introducing overall throughput as a system performance measure.
