Abstract
The goal of this research project is to show how economic theory and methodology can be used to explain political phenomena in compelling ways. An analysis of advocacy and activism explains why "vocal minority" and "silent majority" phenomena exist, and moreover why opposing belief groups may be unable to influence societal beliefs. An analysis of social incentives for migration describes the process of political segregation and polarization.
