Abstract

This Project aims at emphasizing the importance of introducing academic writing instruction into mainland Chinese colleges and exploring the problematic features of Chinese EFL students' academic writing and the solutions to teach these features. This Project reviewed a total of 10 features that have been examined and selected 4 major problematic features to be incorporated into the pedogogical practice: rhetorical/text organization, characters of thesis statements, use of support/citation and quotation, expression of personal voices. The Project gives the justifications of the selection of these four features and offered specific teaching suggestions to writing teachers about how to teach them explicitly to Chinese EFL students.
