dc.description.abstractLearning analytics tools are used primarily by educational administrations to extract valuable information from learners’ trace data to make institutional-level decisions. With the growing prominence of massive open online courses (MOOCs), the time has come for learning analytics tools designed for use by students to regulate their learning. To design effective learning analytics visualizations that provide formative feedback to learners, this project involves a pre-design study to explore the types of data collected by prominent learning management systems, how this data is visualized and the context of their use.en_US
