Abstract

Simple Finite Elements in python (Sfepy) is an open-source framework that is dedicated to solving partial differential equation (PDE) problems with the help of vectorized operation in the Numpy package. And Gmsh is an open-source 3D mesh generator combining a build-in CAD engine that provides a speedy, light, and easy implementation meshing tool. I build a nite element mode solver based on Sfepy and Gmsh for fiber mode and whispering gallery mode (WGM) analysis. In this report, I will simulate different types of step-index fibers to research their power contribution in terms of fiber's core radius, numerical aperture, and V number, and I will also simulate a microcavity to solve WGM in terms of its resonance wavelength, quality factor, and electromagnetic distribution.
