dc.description.abstractThis thesis examines the attitudes of one group of Canadian Indian students toward school and attempts to evaluate the relationship of these attitudes to the type of schools the students have experienced. It secondarily examines the relationship between attitudes and sex, and between attitudes and family background. The data for this study was collected in ninety-nine directed interviews with students from one British Columbia Reserve who were between the ages of six and nineteen. The working hypothesis suggests that there will be a relation­ship between school experience and attitudes toward school. A primary conclusion, however, reveals no simple one-to-one relationship between school category and attitudes. On some interview questions this relationship is found to exist for females but not for males. Addition­ally, some attitudes appear to be more related to sex or family type than to school experience. Appendices include the student interview schedule, a listing of responses for the total sample, student essays, and an interview schedule for parents.en
