Abstract
The differential cross sections for production of positive pions by bombarding carbon with 400, 450 and 500 MeV protons and copper with 450 and 500 MeV protons have been measured. This data was taken at pion production angles of 60°, 100°, and 150° with respect to the incident proton beam.
The results are compared to theoretical calculations and so similar work at other proton energies. The earlier results of Lillethun at 450 MeV should be renormalized by a factor of approximately 0.3. As proton energy increases from 400 to 730 MeV the differential cross sections for a particular energy pion increase monotonically.
