Part I: Spectroscopic and gas-liquid chromatographic evidence is presented for the structure of a norditerpene hydrocarbon isolated from Bute Inlet Wax. The synthesis of this hydrocarbon from phytol and its rigorous comparison with 2,6,10,14-tetramethylpentadecane (pristane) is discussed. Part II: The isolation and structure elucidation of a sesquiterpene hydrocarbon from Eupatorium ayapana, complete with its synthesis from B-eudesmol is presented. Finally, a spectral characterization of a known monoterpenoid constituent of Eupatorium ayapana and its derivatives is discussed.en
