dc.description.abstract | This study analyses the role etiquette plays in the socialization of women into the philosophy of "good wife, wise mother." While etiquette is normally thought of as cursory stylized bodily behaviour, in Japan, the philosophy of etiquette embodies women's life-long devotion to family, husband and children. This research analyzes Japanese women's lifestyle / cooking magazines and etiquette manuals and their disciplinary force on women's bodies. | |
