In this study the researcher explores the nature of a sense of place. Place in this context is the national, historical, geographical, spiritual or linguistic experience as it relates to identity and belonging. The researcher situates herself in an autobiography of place where her experience is part of the large cultural mosaic. The philosophy behind the interpretive work of this study is hermeneutics, which speaks for a cycle of interpretation. This philosophy encourages movement at various levels of understanding and in their space of in between applying imagination, language, involvement, universal themes and finally, praxis. As well as using her autobiographical experience, the researcher interviewed others from different backgrounds to elicit meaning of place according to the participants ' experience. The participants talked of home, community, history, landscape or language and the meaning of these to their sense of place. Following the interviews and their interpretation is the practical application of the nature of place. Praxis for acceptance is discussed in relation to community and dialogue, both of which focus on the individuals and their sense of belonging. The participants of this study indicate that identity and belonging as they relate to place form a strong bond between one and society. Therefore, members of society and educators ought to pay attention, include the others and accept their experience. This way the others may be encouraged to develop a sense of belonging and open their hearts to the new place. To conclude, the researcher writes her professional and personal reflections on the topic of place. Since the researcher goes to Israel while she is still involved in the study, she includes an epilogue, which illuminates yet another layer of place.
