The purpose of this project is to examine the research on Digital Storytelling (DS) and based on this research create a professional development (PD) workshop for colleagues. Through a comprehensive literature review, I determined that digital storytelling is a valuable tool for supporting emergent writers in their story writing. This project includes three components: 1) a review of the foundational and current research of Digital Storytelling, 2) a review of the literature on effective PD approaches, 3) a guide for an opening session of a professional learning series on DS. This introductory workshop facilitates participants’ understanding of DS, a tool that combines words, sounds and images to produce a multimodal text. During the interactive sessions participants work in collaboration with peers to explore applications on the iPad in order to experience the benefits, challenges and effectiveness of creating a digital story.en_US
