Abstract
This research project explores the ways in which bisexual women are portrayed in speculative fiction television, in order to gain a deeper understanding of prevalent social narratives about bisexual women. Using a critical discourse analysis, seventeen characters across fifteen televisions shows were examined in order to identify patterns in representation. The initial findings showed that bisexual women in speculative fiction television are often portrayed as dangerous, hypersexual, and manipulative, which reinforces the most prevalent negative stereotypes that bisexual women face.
