dc.description.abstractThis project studied the root growth potential of Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesi) seedlings during the fall, to gather information on the health of seedlings throughout the fall season and to determine the best time for fall planting, as most planting of Douglas-fir occurs in the spring in BC. I also tested the effects of different light treatments and genotypes on root growth potential. Root growth potential was measured as the number of new white roots after two weeks of ideal growing conditions in a growth chamber. Preliminary results indicate no differences between light and ambient photoperiod treatments, and that there was light pollution on the ambient photoperiod treatment. Surprisingly, root growth potential increased slightly throughout the fall.
