In the transition to the new BC public-school curriculum, many teachers have found the task of assigning grades difficult. My research concerns a novel method of assigning grades to students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) classes. This model both reflects the intentions of the new curriculum and can be adapted to fit the needs of a diverse class. The model works by considering two measures of performance rather than summarizing a grade through a single percentage. This way, a student always has an opportunity to succeed regardless of their prior performance. This model was inspired by a grading scheme used at Simon Fraser University by Dr. Steve Dodge.en_US
